What to pack for Weekend Campouts

What’s in the Hiking Backpack

  1. Extra pair of shorts (would recommend eventually getting another shirt) and or pants (depending on the weather), underwear and socks- Pack these in either a 1 Gallon Ziploc bag or a water proof stuff sack.
  2. Light Rain jacket (will pack if it looks like rain that weekend).
  3. Sleeping Bag- if you need a new one I would look at North Face or Marmont (online they are on clearance and sale).
  4. Sleeping pad-if you do not have one I would recommend one from thermarest (the neo air one is excellent as it provided comfort, is light/packs down small and insulates to reduce getting cold on the ground.  However, it is pricy at $120.00) brand.  Check on line.
  5. Mess kit (with spork or spoon and fork)-if you are looking for one the Light My Fire one (comes with a cutting board/strainer, small bowel, cup and it fits nicely together) with titanium Spork and sling care case (to attach to back pack) on line is nice (scout store had it as well but cheaper online).
  6. Two man tent (only if you have one at this time)- if you decide to get one I would go with the North Face Rock 22 or Marmont ($130.00 online) as these are very easy to set up and light to carry.  Do not get a one man tent.
  7. Waterproof head lamp.
  8. Small thing of baby wipes, small hand sanitizer jell and toilet paper (in a Ziploc bag).
  9. Bug spray. (pump spray type, no aerosol)
  10. Personal hygiene kit in a zip lock bag or small water proof stuff sack-soap (by itself in a small Ziploc bag), toothbrush, toothpaste, small towel (Dicks/Academy sell these) and dental floss.
  11.   Sunscreen. (squeeze tube type, no aerosol)
  12.  Please let me know if anyone is on any medications as we need to let the Medical manager know ahead of time as he will need to hold the meds and give to the boy as required.
  13.  Small Ziploc bag of dryer lint (helps in starting fires).
  14.  Watch (if they have one).
  15.  First aid kit.  If not water proof, put in a Ziploc bag.
