About Troop 41

Troop 41 was established in October of 1995 by Joe Greco.  Starting with five scouts, the troop now numbers over 30, with members joining from every Cub Pack in Berlin (CT), as well as from outside these Packs.  Troop 41 takes pride in its community service, supporting many volunteer and community organizations, including but not limited to, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Veteran groups and the Berlin Fair.

Troop 41 maintains a strong outdoor program, considered the keystone to a great, successful Scouting experience.  Except for some extreme weather conditions, the troop has not missed a monthly outing since its inception.  Outings include skiing in Vermont, the district Klondike challenge, OKPIK (winter camping in Maine), Gettysburg, PA, Cape Cod biking, Howe Caverns, National BSA jamborees, Herkimer, NY, and high adventure camps in New Mexico (Philmont) and the Florida Keys (Seabase) and much more.

Troop activities lessen during the summer months, however a week of summer camp (late July, early August) at Camp Workcoeman in New Hartford, CT gives our scouts the opportunity to learn outdoor and leadership skills and to do work on earning various merit badges.  All troop outings and summer camp are led by the scouts under the guidance of the troop's adult leadership.  All leaders are BSA trained and include three Wood Badges, scouting's highest training achievement for adult leaders, and a Silver Beaver, a national recognition of adult leadership and excellence.

The troop's first Eagle Scout , the highest rank in Scouting was achieved in 1998.  Since then over 20 Troop 41 scouts have earned this esteemed rank.  Eagle projects performed by our Eagles have benefited the Berlin YMCA, Kensington Congregational Church, St. Paul's Church, Hungerford Center, Klingberg Center, Berlin Senior Citizens, Peck Library, Timberlin Park and many other non-profit organizations in the area.  To the great benefit of the troop, many Eagle scouts return and participate as adult leaders

Troop 41 is a highly regarded BSA program dedicated to providing an environment that encourages personal growth and the learning of leadership skills that will benefit our scouts throughout their entire lives.
